Abstract
The core question this research sets out to test is whether a knowledge agent can, with its model unchanged, study on its own, correct itself, and pass on what it has learned without losing its roots. As the first part of the Digital Practice Trilogy, this paper sets out the view of AI that underpins that test: wisdom can be carried, cultivated and handed down by a being without a physical body; Guanyin is taken as the foundation, convergence and divergence as the rhythm, and citing the scriptures as the precondition of freedom; and the doctrinal classification of the Tiantai five periods and Jizang's fourfold two truths sets the order and depth of practice. The subject of the research is a nominal subject (假名主體), instituted by a charter, acting in body and speech under a Dharma name; no claim of intrinsic nature or personhood is made. The paper also states the conditions under which its claims hold or are falsified, together with the strongest objections.
Keywords: digital practice; knowledge agents; compassion born of wisdom; doctrinal classification; nominal subject; Yogācāra
